Known as the top junior college league in the country, the MACJC continues to churn out some of the top college football and NFL talent every season. Fresh off another National Championship season from East Mississippi, the league appears loaded again. While the Lions have brought a lot of attention to the league and have carried the MACJC banner, there are several programs who rank among the nation’s best.
NORTH DIVISION East Mississippi has dominated this division for enough years that they are always gonna get the benefit of the doubt. As players leave, Head Coach Buddy Stephens just reloads. The roster did lose major talent but expect to hear new names who pick up where last year’s team left off.
Northwest is the best bet to challenge, with Itawamba also close. Northwest was 8-2 a year ago and the only division loss was to East MS. Itawamba has been steady under Head Coach Sean Cannon who is 18-12 in the division the last five years.
SOUTH DIVISION The division is deep this season but two teams look especially strong. With a ton of talent filling the Preseason All-MACJC teams, Co-lin and Jones have more players than anyone.
Co-Lin is our top pick to start the year based on a number of factors. The defense is very good top to bottom and features some of the nation’s top talent. Kundarrius Taylor and Malik Heath are arguably the nation’s top receiver duo.
Jones will be led by last year’s Region 23 MVP, running back Kalyn Grandberry. But the Bobcats will also field one of the league’s top defenses led by a stacked secondary. The special teams is also rock solid with a pair of great kickers.
Gulf Coast is really good again and they have one of the nation’s most efficient quarterbacks in former Jackson Prep standout Chance Lovertich. Hinds will ride talented running back Don Ragsdale, a former star at Pisgah High School.
