Capital Ortho Team of the Week for Week 3

This week’s Capital Ortho Team of the Week features a pair of Ridgeland Titans and Madison Central Jaguars. Arguable the two biggest performances last week came from the quarterbacks. Luke Altmyer of Starkville and Ridgeland’s Zy McDonald combined for almost 900 yards of offense in their two wins.

 

OFFENSE

Quarterback, Luke Altmyer / Starkville
Starkville quarterback Luke Altmyer (6’2, 190) passed for 315 yards with two touchdowns and ran for another 77 yards in a 40-28 win over previous No. 1 West Point. 

All-Purpose, Zy McDonald / Ridgeland
Ridgeland senior quarterback Zy McDonald (5’11, 185) completed 16-25 passes for 344 yards and three touchdowns in a 34-14 win over Pearl. He also rushed 12 times for another 146 yards and two scores.  

Running Back, Jarquez Hunter / Neshoba Central
Neshoba Central running back Jarquez Hunter (5’10, 190) had 32 carries for 179 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a big 25-17 win over Tupelo.

Running Back, Justin Walley / D’Iberville
D’Iberville senior athlete Justin Walley (5’10, 165) had ten rushes for 131 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-21 win over Wayne County. Walley also caught three passes for 46 yards.

Wide Receiver, Ayden Williams / Ridgeland
Ridgeland sophomore receiver Ayden Williams (6’3, 185) caught eight passes for 181 yards and a touchdown in a 34-14 win over Pearl.

Wide Receiver, Jonathan Harris / Petal
Petal senior receiver Jonathan Harris (5’10, 155) had three receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-14 win over Brookhaven.

 

DEFENSE

Defensive Line, Derrick Burgess Jr. / Lafayette
Lafayette junior defensive end Derrick Burgess (6’2, 235) finished with 11 tackles, five tackles for loss and a sack in a 21-6 win over Horn Lake.

Linebacker, Dalton Stevens / Madison Central
Madison Central linebacker Dalton Stevens (6’2, 195) piled up 14 tackles with two tackles for loss and an interception in the Jaguars’ 31-20 win over Northwest Rankin.

Defensive Back, Creek Robertson/ Madison Central
Madison Central senior safety Creek Robertson (6’, 180) had 14 tackles and an interception in a 31-20 win over Northwest Rankin. 

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker, Ashton Maffett / Pontotoc
Pontotoc placekicker Ashton Maffett (5’11, 165) was good on all five extra point attempts and nailed a game-winner in overtime from 23 yards to beat New Albany.
