Capital Ortho Team of the Week for Week 8

The Mississippi Gridiron Team of the Week is presented by Capital Ortho. The week 8 team features a pair of Ocean Springs players. South Panola defensive tackle Tra Norwood is the featured photo. Players are selected from around the state.

 

OFFENSE

Quarterback, Khi Holiday / Tupelo Christian Prep
Tupelo Christian Prep senior quarterback Khi Holiday (5’9, 155) passed for 178 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 134 yards and five touchdowns in a 52-27 win over Hamilton.

All-Purpose, Jak King / Ocean Springs
Ocean Springs senior athlete Jak King (5’10, 175) piled up 117 yards and two touchdowns in the air and added 19 carries for 101 yards rushing with two more touchdowns in a 31-29 win over Biloxi. He was 11-21 passing.

Running Back, Xavier Evans / Laurel
Laurel senior running back Xavier Evans (5’8, 185) carried the ball 29 times for 404 yards and five touchdowns in a 57-38 win over Natchez. 

Wide Receiver, Jordan Martin / Lake Cormorant
Lake Cormorant junior wide receiver Jordan Martin (5’10, 170) caught a 52-yard touchdown and another 40-yard touchdown in a 35-26 win over West Point.

 

DEFENSE

Defensive Line, Tra Norwood / South Panola
South Panola senior nose guard Tra Norwood (5’11, 265) had five tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in a 19-16 win over Germantown.

Linebacker, LaJavis Patrick / Scott Central
Scott Central senior linebacker LaJavis Patrick (5’8, 180) racked up 12 tackles, three tackles for loss, a couple of sacks and two fumble recoveries in a 46-16 win over Newton. He also had two rushing touchdowns.

Defensive Back, Khamauri Rogers / Holmes County Central
Holmes County junior cornerback Khamauri Rogers (6’1, 160) had a 38-yard interception return for touchdown and a 35-yard touchdown reception in a 32-12 win over McComb. He also punted twice for a 45 yard average. 

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicker, Ethan Hunt / Ocean Springs
Ocean Springs senior placekicker Ethan Hunt (5’10, 170) was 4-4 on extra points and hit a 35-yard field goal as time expired to beat Biloxi 31-29.
