Sports Illustrated writer Ben Glicksman takes a look at the recruitment of Houston standout Chris Jones in this article. There have been many questions regarding how a recruit such as Jones could fly under the radar for so long. Well, he didn’t even play football until he reached the 10th grade, and sat out the first five games of his junior year after transferring to Houston. He was a complete unknown to most colleges until his senior year of high school.
Jones was discovered by Mississippi State coaches at a 7 on 7 summer camp when he attended basically as an afterthought. Jones left quite an impression at the camp and the rest of his story is history.
