Simpson Academy prepares for a pair of games at Mississippi College today in the MAIS Overall Championship Basketball Tournament. The Cougars earned berths as both the boys and girls teams claimed AAAA-2 state championships last week.

In the process of beating Copiah Academy in the AAAA-2 State Championship game, Simpson boys coach James Crain reached a rare milestone as he became just the third high school boys coach in Mississippi history to win 1,000 games. Crain’s record now stands at 1,001-325 with a combined six state championships at Mendenhall and Simpson.

Simpson coach Linda Dear won her fourth state championship, all at Simpson, as her girls beat Lamar 45-39. The win helped push her career record at the school to 370-101.
