Friday Night Roundup for Week 12

Ridgeland earned one of the night’s biggest wins, beating Germantown 41-34 in overtime to secure their playoff spot and knock out Germantown from the playoff picture. Northwest Rankin picked up a 35-28 win at Murrah to reach the 6A playoffs again behind 203 rushing yards from Curtis Hicks. The night’s biggest upset might have been Byhalia’s shocking 15-10 win over Corinth on a 4th down hail mary pass with just 11 seconds left in the game. Ridgeland 41  Germantown 34: Ridgeland beat Germantown 41-34 in overtime  to secure the third seed in region 2 and eliminated Germantown from the playoff picture.  Southern Miss commit Xavier Marion had 11 catches for 146 yards and a couple scores. He also picked off a pass for Ridgeland. Titan quarterback Parker Lohman threw for 236 yards and two scores, while rushing for another 160 yards and two more touchdowns.

Northwest Rankin 35  Murrah 28: Tailback Curtis Hicks dominated the Murrah defense to lift Northwest Rankin to a 35-28 win and secured a playoff berth. Hicks rushed for 203 yards on 32 carries and a score. Quarterback Hayden Welch ran for three touchdowns. Malik Dear ran for 131 yards and three scores for the Mustangs.

Madison Central 41 Greenville-Weston 12: Jaguar quarterback Joseph Willis completed 13-18 passes for 236 yards and four touchdowns to lead Madison Central to a 41-12 win and a region title. MC is the region’s top playoff seed and will host Desoto Central next week.

Centreville 28 Tri-County 21: Centreville’s Mark Curry scored two touchdowns to knock Tri-County out of the MAIS AA playoff picture. Trey Bozeman accounted for two Tri-County touchdowns.

Indianola Academy 25  Leake Academy 24: A late Wheeler Timbs touchdown run gave Indianola a 25-24 win over Leake. John Sisson caught a touchdown and hit a 25-yard field goal.

Jackson Academy 28  Washington 0: Jackson Academy’s Daniel Kennedy ran scored four touchdowns as the Raiders ended the season undefeated on the field.

Simpson Academy 40  Lee Academy 9: Three Simpson running backs topped the 100-yard mark as Simpson rolled over Lee Academy. Mason Herrin led the team with 142 rushing yards, Daniel Taylor finished with 122 yards on the ground.

Jackson Prep 35 Parklane 7: Gene Wood accounted for four touchdowns as Jackson Prep picked up an easy 35-7 win over Parklane.

Harrison Central 56  Hancock 21: Harrison Central secured a 6A playoff spot with a blowout victory over Hancock. Dwayne Barnett rushed for three touchdowns as HC earns region 4’s #4 seed in the playoffs. They play at Brandon next Friday.

Meridian 42  Forest Hill 25: Meridian rolled to the 42-25 win behind J’Mar Smith and Richard McQuarley. The Wildcats are the #3 seed in region 3 and will travel to Gulfport to open the playoffs.

Tupelo 7  Olive Branch 0: Tupelo capped off their first 10-win season since 1999 with a 7-0 win over Olive Branch.  Tupelo is in the playoffs for the first time since 2008, and will host Warren Central next week.

Saltillo 49  New Hope 24: Saltillo punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 49-24 win over New Hope. Diamante Pounds rushed for 131 yards on 29 carries and scored twice.

Byhalia 15  Corinth 10: Byhalia (4-6) upset a Corinth team who had lost only once this year, picking up  a 15-10 win. Byhalia scored the game-winner on a fourth down hail mary pass with 11 seconds remaining.
