Friday Night Roundup from Week 11

The biggest win of the night came in Vicksburg as Warren Central upset Starkville 12-9 to pull into a tie in region 2 with Starkville and Madison Central. On the coast, D’Iberville picked up a big 41-20 win over Hattiesburg to position themselves for a region 4 crown. Pearl needed a late pick 6 to pull out a 34-27 win over Ridgeland and remained unbeaten in the region. In Batesville following a scoreless first half, South Panola pulled away for a 22-0 win over Grenada. In MAIS action, Simpson Academy ran away with a 38-14 win to knock out defending AA champion Brookhaven Academy. (PHOTO: Magee quarterback Marquez McNair)

 

BIG 25

Warren Central 12  #11 Starkville 9:  Warren Central moved into a three-way tie for first place in region 2 with Starkville and Madison Central after upsetting Starkville 12-9. The Vikings drove the length of the field for the game-winning Jade Pollack 27-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter. Warren Central is 7-3, 5-1 in the region. Starkville fell to 7-3 and 5-1.

#5 Pearl 34  Ridgeland 27:  Pearl needed a late interception for a score to beat Ridgeland 34-27 and improve to 10-1, 6-0 in region play. With Ridgeland in position to kick a potential game-winning field goal, Stacee James picked off a pass and raced 74 yards for the game-winning score.

Germantown 28  Canton 27:  Chester Lewis rushed for 201 yards and a pair of scores to lead Germantown to the win.  Reed James hit field goals of 42 and 36 yards field goals for the Mavericks. Germantown improved to 7-3, Canton fell to 4-6.

#1 South Panola 22  #14 Grenada 0: South Panola and Grenada were scoreless at the half and ended the third quarter with the Tigers ahead 3-0, but South Panola pulled away in the fourth quarter. Rip Kirk had a touchdown throw and Roosevelt Jones rushed for two touchdowns. South Panola improved to 10-1.

#9 Pascagoula 28 George County 13: Andrew Dunn threw four touchdown passes as Pascagoula improved to 9-1

#3 Oak Grove 42  Provine 0: Kirk McCarty threw for 205 yards and four touchdowns to lead Oak Grove.

#12 Callaway 31  Vicksburg 12: Ronald Walker returned an interception for a touchdown and Kendarius Rogers added a punt return for a score as Callaway improved to 10-1.

#8 Wayne County 28  #16 West Jones 17: West Jones put up a fight early, building a 10-0 lead, but Wayne County was too much with Elijah Pugh running for 141 yards and two scores.  David Hodo passed for 273 yards and another touchdown as Wayne County improved to 8-2.

#17 D’Iberville 41  Hattiesburg 20: D’Iberville dominated on the ground most of the night as they took control of region 4 with the win. Jojo Warrick passed threw two touchdowns and rushed for one to improve to 8-2.

Magee 19  Mendenhall 13:  Magee improved to 8-2 behind quarterback Marquez McNair who rushed for 111 yards and added 221 yards through the air. McNair had three touchdown passes as the Trojans beat Mendenhall (5-6, 4-1) for the first time in three years.

 

SMALL 25

#3 Bassfield 48  #9 East Marion 6:  A game that looked good on paper turned into a blowout as Bassfield raced to a 48-6 win over East Marion. The Yellowjackets improved to 10-1 as they blew open a game that was close for most of the first half. Greg Green rushed for 86 yards and Richaud Green added another 70 on the ground. East Marion fell to 9-2.

#6 Philadelphia 41  #21 Choctaw County 6:  Philadelphia dominated Choctaw County, leading 28-6 at the half and pulled away for a 41-6 victory. Philadelphia improved to 10-1 and has outscored teams 460-67 this year. Choctaw County is 8-3

#2 Jackson Academy 49  Starkville Academy 3: Duncan Maxwell accounted for three touchdowns with two rushing and  a 67-yard touchdown reception from Colin Welsh. Daniel Kennedy had a pair of touchdowns as the Raiders improved to 8-2. Starkville fell to 3-7.

#19 Forest 48  Choctaw Central 14: Chris Mazique threw a pair of touchdowns as Forest improved to 8-3. Demarquis Wilson had both Choctaw Central scores.

#24 Simpson Academy 38  Brookhaven Academy 14: Simpson running back Daniel Taylor was a game-changer as he rushed for three touchdowns.  Mason Herrin also scored twice as Simpson improved to 10-1 and knocked out defending AA champion Brookhaven Academy (4-7).

Lee Academy 35  Canton Academy 27: Lee Academy improved to 9-2 as Shaw Johnson and Tyler Stanley paced the offensive attack. Stanley rushed for a score and caught a touchdown from Johnson. Lafayette Wales had two scoring run for Canton as they ended the season 7-4.

Tri-County 20  Silliman 17 (OT):  Tri-County needed overtime to turn back Silliman 20-17 and stay alive in the MAIS A playoffs. Ryan Cothern rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown to lead the Rebels. Trey Bozeman passed for 163 yards and accounted for two touchdowns. Silliman fell to 7-4 as Tri-County improved to 10-1.
