This week’s National Guard Team Of The Week for week 6 features high school players from Oxford, Clinton, Kossuth, Collins, Starkville, D’Iberville, Germantown and Thrasher.
QB, Jack Abraham (6’1, 195, Sr), Oxford
Oxford signal-caller Jack Abraham connected on 15-20 passes for 421 yards and five touchdowns in the Chargers’ 50-28 win over West Point.
AP, Cam Akers (5’11, 205, Jr), Clinton
Clinton junior quarterback Cam Akers threw for 291 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 83 yards in a 35-30 win over Madison Central.
RB, Jaley Adams (5’9, 205, Jr), Kossuth
Kossuth junior running back Jaley Adams broke the state single-game rushing record with 28 carries for 544 yards and eight touchdowns in a 68-34 win over Corinth. Adams has rushed for 1,274 yards and 16 touchdowns this season on 120 carries.
WR, Derric Hawthorn (5’9, 175, Sr), Collins
Collins senior wideout Derric Hawthorn hauled in five passes for 174 yards and two touchdowns, collected 10 tackles and forced a fumble in a 38-12 win over Quitman.
DL, Lorenzo Dantzler (6’3, 240, Sr), Starkville
Starkville defensive end Lorenzo Dantzler racked up eight tackles with four tackles for loss, four sacks and two forced fumbles in a 49-7 win over Callaway.
LB, Barry Leonard (6’2, 230, Sr), D’Iberville
D’Iberville senior linebacker Barry Leonard was credited with 23 tackles and 1 ½ sacks, blocked two punts and scored on a 60-yard fumble return in a 35-17 win over Biloxi.
DB, Jamie Johnson (5’11, 175, Jr), Germantown
Germantown cornerback Jamie Johnson had two interceptions, including one returned 73 yards for a touchdown, and forced a fumble in a 31-12 win over Vicksburg.
Returner, Shawn Dalton Weatherbee (5’10, 165, Fr), Thrasher
Thrasher freshman Shawn Dalton Weatherbee returned three punts for a 37.7 yard average including a 71-yard touchdown and averaged 41.5 yards per kickoff return. Weatherbee also averaged 39.3 yards on three punts, had seven tackles and rushed for 30 yards with a touchdown. He was 3-8 passing for 104 yards and a score in a 38-20 win over Hamilton.
