High School Team Of The Week

The Mississippi Gridiron High School Team Of The Week is presented by the Mississippi National Guard. This week’s team features players from nine different teams and five different classifications.


QB, Jack Abraham, Oxford
Oxford senior quarterback Jack Abraham had a huge night in a loss to Madison Central. Abraham completed 36-68 passes for 479 yards and three touchdowns against the Jaguars.

AP, Juwan Adams, North Pike
North Pike senior quarterback Juwan Adams earns the all-purpose spot this week after rushing for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns, to go with 283 passing yards and two more scores in a 38-35 win over Franklin County.

RB, Tyrell Price, Lafayette
Lafayette senior running back Tyrell Price carried the ball 36 times for 277 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-14 win over Grenada last week.

WR, Calvin Keys, Collins
Collins wideout Calvin Keys hauled in four passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-26 loss to Hattiesburg last week.

OL, Hazlehurst
The Hazlehurst offensive line paved the way for a 36-24 win over Magee. The Indians piled up 438 rushing yards as a team on just 38 carries for an 11.5 yards per carry average. Two players rushed for more than 100 yards.



DL, Jeffery Simmons, Noxubee County
Noxubee County senior defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons almost led his Tigers to a 10-6 win over Aledo High School, the TX 5A defending state champs. Simmons had nine tackles, a forced fumble and a sack in the 10-6 loss.

LB, T-Tez Cole, Lawrence County
Lawrence County senior linebacker T-Tez Cole racked up 22 total tackles and six tackles for loss in a 55-33 win over Brookhaven. Cole also recovered a fumble.

DB, Graham Eklund, Jackson Prep
Jackson Prep senior defensive back Graham Eklund turned a pair of interceptions into touchdowns as the Patriots beat Cathedral 49-17. Eklund also had five tackles and a tackle for loss.


Special Teams

PK, Haden Miller, Pisgah
Pisgah junior placekicker Haden Miller hit 5-5 field goal attempts in the Dragons’ 35-14 win over St. Andrews. Miller also averaged 34.7 yards per punt.
