This week’s National Guard Team Of The Week features players from Holmes, Hinds, Co-Lin, East Central, Gulf Coast and Jones County. Holmes and Hinds each placed two players on the team after wins over Northeast and Southwest.
QB, Dejerric Bryant, Holmes
Holmes freshman quarterback Dejerric Bryant completed 10-12 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-20 win over Northeast. Bryant also had a rushing touchdown.
AP, Jaquez Parks, Hinds
Hinds quarterback Jaquez Parks passed for 220 yards and rushed for 105 yards in a 38-17 win over Southwest. Parks completed 15-27 passes with two touchdowns and rushed 12 times with one score.
RB, Matt Fuller, Holmes
Holmes running back Matt Fuller rushed 21 times for 110 yards and a touchdown in a 56-20 win over Northeast.
WR, Jahmmir Taylor, Hinds
Hinds wide receiver Jahmmir hauled in four catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in Hinds’ 38-17 win over Southwest.
DL, Paul James III, Co-Lin
Co-Lin sophomore Paul James III registered 8.5 tackles, five tackles for loss and three sacks in a 17-14 win over Jones County. James leads the MACJC with 14 sacks.
LB, Demetrius Gooden, East Central
East Central linebacker Demetrius Gooden finished with seven tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery as East Central beat Pearl River 20-3.
DB, Vaughnte Dorsey, Gulf Coast
Mississippi Gulf Coast defensive back Vaughnte Dorsey piled up 16 tackles with a tackle for loss and a pass broken up in Gulf Coast’s 38-7 win over Itawamba.
P, Patrick Ponder, Jones County
Jones County punter Patrick Ponder punted seven times for a 42.1 yards per punt average and had five punts downed inside the 20-yard line as Jones County lost 17-14 to Co-Lin. Ponder leads the MACJC with a 43.1 yards per punt average.
