Indianola Academy has always lean on a heavy rushing attack.
It was no different on Thursday night and Adams Christian had no answer.
Behind a heavy rushing attack and a stout defense Indianola Academy whipped Adams Christian 42-7 to claim the MAIS Class AAA state championship at Jackson Academy to cap a undefeated season.
It is the Colonels (14-0) fourth state championship in school history and first since 1976.
“Very proud of the offensive line they dominated up front in the second, third and fourth quarter,” said Indianola Academy coach Tommy Nester. “Great team win. This feels good.”
Sherman Timbs had 184 yards rushing on 23 carries to lead the heavy Colonel rushing attack. Indianola Academy rushed for a total of 331 yards.
Quarterback Will Davis passed 45 yards with a touchdown and also rushed for 56 yards with two touchdowns.
The Colonel defense held a potent Adams Christian offense to just 148 yards of total offense, including just 45 yards rushing.
“We contained the big plays that was my concern coming in,” Nester said. “Both offensive line and defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage and that was the difference.”
George Scott caught five passes for 100 yards with a touchdown to lead Adams Christian (11-3). His touchdown came with 1:17 left in the third quarter on a 68-yard touchdown pass from Jacob McDaniel.
