Recap: Clinton 38, South Panola 26

BATESVILLE — Clinton coach Judd Boswell preached to his team all week about snapping the losing streak against South Panola.

Behind the top prospect in the state of Mississippi the Arrows snapped it.

Cam Akers put on a show to lead Clinton past South Panola 38-26 in front of a packed house at Tiger Stadium on Thursday night.

Akers finished the night with 154 yards on 17 carries with two touchdowns and was 14 of 22 passing with 272 yards with three touchdowns to lead the Arrows (1-0).

“I just did what I had to do to help my team win,” Akers said. “This win is huge for us and most importantly this win is for the city of Clinton.”

His leading receiver was Southern Miss commit Darius Maberry. Maberry had five catches for 117 yards and scored on a 59-yard touchdown in the second quarter.

Patrick Shegog led South Panola (0-1) with 130 yards passing with two touchdowns and also rushed for 57 yards with two touchdowns. Receiver Jordan Strong had 110 yards receiving with two touchdowns.

This is South Panola’s first home loss in a season opener since 2012 against Hoover (Ala.).
