Simmons run past Resurrection for 1A title

OXFORD — Chandler Robinson was a one-wrecking crew for Simmons.

Behind Robinson and Marquez Pam the Blue Devils raced passed Resurrection 25-9 to claim the MHSAA Class 1A state championship at Ole Miss’ Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Friday afternoon.

Simmons (12-0) capped its undefeated season with the schools first state championship in school history.

The Blue Devil forced four Resurrection turnovers and sacked Eagle quarterback Blake Porter five times. Resurrection only had 95 yards of total offense for the game. Simmons had 315.

Robinson finished the day 14 of 19 passing for 172 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Marquez Pam had 92 yards rushing and a 44-yard touchdown run with 3:25 left in the fourth quarter. He also had a 17-yard touchdown catch for the Blue Devils first touchdown of the game.

Mississippi State commit Nero Nelson had 49 yards rushing and 70 yards receiving for Simmons. He also had a 36-yard touchdown catch with 1:32 left in the third quarter to give the Blue Devils a 19-3 lead.

Patrick Watts had a 11-yard touchdown run for Resurrection. Phillip Burrow kicked a 22-yard field goal for the first score of the game for the Eagles (13-1).
