This week’s SoundCom MACJC Team of the Week features Co-Lin linebacker Hayden Hill who had 12 tackles in the biggest game of last week. Gulf Coast’s Jackie Matthews had a pair of interceptions in that same game as the Bulldogs won 38-20 to take control of the South Division.
Quarterback, Jack Walker / Northwest
Northwest freshman quarterback Jack Walker (6’3, 230) completed 25-40 passes for 398 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions in a 47-42 loss to Holmes.
All-Purpose, Kyren Batey / Holmes
Holmes freshman quarterback Kyren Batey (5’8, 205) rushed 16 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns in a 47-42 win over Northwest. Batey was also 5-7 passing for 88 yards and two scores.
Running Back, Kalyn Grandberry / Jones
Jones sophomore running back Kalyn Grandberry (5’11, 200) needed 27 rushes to pile up 186 yards and three touchdowns as Jones beat Southwest 34-6.
Wide Receiver, Jason Brownlee / East Mississippi
East Mississippi sophomore wide receiver Jason Brownlee (6’3, 190) hauled in ten passes for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 24-0 win over East Central.
Defensive Line, Jamond Gordon / East Mississippi
East Mississippi freshman defensive lineman Jamond Gordon (6’4, 280) picked up seven tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a quarterback hurry in a 24-0 win over East Central.
Linebacker, Hayden Hill / Co-Lin
Co-Lin freshman linebacker Hayden Hill (6’1, 210) was the high tackler in last week’s biggest game, finishing with 12 tackles and a pass breakup in a 38-20 loss to Gulf Coast.
Defensive Back, Jackie Matthews / Gulf Coast
Gulf Coast sophomore defensive back Jackie Matthews (6′, 200) picked off two passes and had five tackles in a 38-20 win over Co-Lin.
Punter/Kicker, Michael Baugus / Northeast
Northeast sophomore Michael Baugus (6′, 165) handled all special teams duties in a 14-12 win over Itawamba. Baugus punted five times averaging 42 yards per punt with four punts downed inside the 20-yard-line. Baugus was 2-2 on extra points and had a touchback on one of his three kickoffs.
