Madison Central opens the season at No. 2 in our preseason rankings. Here is a look at the Jaguars with a few comments from Coach Hart from this summer.
No. 2: Madison Central Jaguars
Head Coach: Anthony Hart
2018 Record: 10-4 (Class 6A Semifinalist)
Starters Returning: Offense: 7 Defense: 5
Players to Watch: QB Jimmy Holiday; RB Duke Arnold; WR/FS Creek Robertson; WR Luke Robertson; OL Justin Lairy; LB Joseph Perryman; LB Josiah Perryman; LB Nick Carter; LB Hayes Bufkin; SS Andre Mack.
Coach Speak: “We’ve reached the North Half Championship game in each of my three years here and want to get further. The thing we have this year is we have all five offensive linemen back where in the past we’ve had to rebuild at that position. Having Jimmy and Duke back is great, and they work well together and are continuing to get better. We have five linebackers that started at some point. We lost all three defensive linemen but we have some guys that we are excited about up front that are athletic. In the secondary we have Andre Mack back at safety after a season-ending injury. He will be a huge key for us at the position. In our division if you make the playoffs no matter what seed, one through four, you have a chance” Hart said.
Outlook: Expectations are always high at Madison Central but this year they are even higher. The Jaguars return a ton of offensive weapons and are the slight favorite to hoist the 6A state championship in December. They first must get out of rugged Region 2-6A. Jimmy Holiday returns at quarterback to lead the offense after passing for 1,518 yards with 16 touchdowns. The TCU commit also rushed for 1,457 yards with 18 touchdowns. Back at running back is Duke Arnold who had 979 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns. The Robertson brothers, Creek and Luke, will be the top targets at receiver. Defensively the linebacker position will lean on the side of the ball anchored by the Perryman twins, Joseph and Josiah. Hayes Bufkin and Nick Carter are also important returnrs. Andre Mack is back at strong safety after being injured in Week 4 of last year, along with Creek Robertson at free safety to lead the secondary.
Season Opener: Aug. 23 vs. Vicksburg (at Warren Central)
