No. 7 Brandon Bulldogs
Head Coach: Tyler Peterson
2017 Record: 7-6 (Class 6A First Round)
Starters Returning: Offense: 7 Defense: 7
Players to Watch: QB Will Rogers; WR Jonathan Mingo; WR Ashton Nickleberry; OL Jack Green; DB Jay Stanley; LB Dakara Shoto; LB Zihenryon Perry; DL Paxton Edmondson; DL Orvin Gibson.
Coach Speak: “I feel like this will be the fastest team we’ve had in the four years I’ve been at Brandon. Key thing for us is consistency and we weren’t consistent last year. Will played really well as a sophomore at quarterback and we’re expecting big things out of them this year along with Mingo at wide out. Defensively with Jay coming in will be a big boost and I feel like that’s where we will improve drastically on that side of the ball,” Peterson said.
Outlook: Inconsistency is the best way to describe the Bulldogs in 2017 as they were bounced in the first round of the playoffs and look to have a big rebound season in 2018. Offensively, Brandon returns seven starters including quarterback Will Rogers who tossed for 2,476 yards with 18 touchdowns along with receiver Jonathan Mingo who had 775 yards with six touchdowns to lead the offense. Bulldogs will use up to four different running backs to lead the rushing attack. Defensively, the Bulldogs have seven starters back that will be led by a veteran front seven including linebackers Dakara Shoto (106 tackles in 2017) and Zihenryon Perry (156 tackles, 10 sacks) along with defensive tackles Paxton Edmondson and Orvin Gibson. Defensive back Tyler Proctor (84 tackles) who will anchor the secondary.
Season Opener: Aug. 17 vs. Madison Central
