The Mississippi Gridiron Team of the Week is presented by Mississippi Blood Services. Players are selected with consideration given to the individual performance, the quality of opponent, and the magnitude of the game. Players can be nominated each week by filling out our online nomination form.

 

Games of Aug 22-24, 2013

 

OFFENSE

QB, Ross Trail, Olive Branch
Junior quarterback Ross Trail piled up 267 yards of total offense with three touchdowns to lead the Conquistadors to a 38-22 win over Memphis Ridgeway.

QB, LeDarius Carpenter, Pearl    
Sophomore quarterback LeDarius Carpenter had 281 yards of total offense with three touchdowns in a 44-13 win over Clinton.

AP, Trey Smith, Madison Central                  
Madison Central junior Trey Smith had a 95-yard kickoff return for touchdown in a 21-14 loss to Brandon. Smith added 98 yards rushing on 24 carries and another 41 receiving yards.

RB, Quantrell Reddix, D’Iberville
Senior running back Quantrell Reddix rushed for 162 yards on 19 carries in a 34-17 win over Gautier. Reddix had a 50-yard touchdown run.

RB, Daniel Taylor, Simpson Academy            
Senior running back Daniel Taylor rushed 28 times for 189 yards in Simpson Academy’s 14-13 win over Parklane Academy. Taylor’s 35-yard touchdown run was the game-winner.

RB, Richard McQuarley, Meridian           
Senior running back Richard McQuarley provided much of Meridian’s offense in a 34-7 win over Northwest Rankin, finishing with 244 yards of offense and three touchdowns.

WR, Dontavis Bruce, Olive Branch
Finished with 274 yards of total offense in a 38-22 win over Ridgeway. Bruce grabbed seven passes for 117 yards and ran for 157 yards. He scored two touchdowns.

WR, C. J. Howard, Ripley                   
Ripley wide receiver C. J. Howard caught eight passes for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Ripley’s 45-14 win over Itawamba AHS.

WR, Dycelious Reese, Hazlehurst                                         
Junior receiver Dycelious Reese had three catches for 97 yards in Hazlehurst’s 55-35 win over Murrah. Reese had an 81-yard reception, and also had 140 yards rushing on just six carries with a touchdown.

OL, Madison-Ridgeland Academy 
The MRA offensive line paved the way for the Patriots’ to pile up 609 yards of total offense, and helped quarterback Caleb Shufelt pass for 388 yards and five touchdowns. The MRA line is paced by seniors Sean Rawlings and Reid Kellems. Senior Mitchell Bishop, junior Pat Seabrook, junior Kale Baylot and sophomore Rustin McMillian round out the line.

 

DEFENSE

DL, Breeland Speaks, Callaway                            
Senior defensive lineman Breeland Speaks had a team-high ten tackles including two tackles for loss as Callaway beat Forest Hill 48-6. Speaks forced two fumbles.

DL, Josh Allen, Provine
Provine’s Josh Allen had nine tackles and a sack in Provine’s 26-22 loss to Canton. Allen had a sack and a forced fumble, in addition to 100 yards receiving.

DE, Bennie Higgins, Greenwood                             
Junior defensive end Bennie Higgins racked up 14 total tackles with three sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in Greenwood’s 49-20 win over LeFlore County.

DE, K. C. Lucious, Jackson Academy
Junior defensive end K. C. Lucious had six tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and a pair of sacks in the Raiders’ 35-7 win over Northeast Lauderdale.

LB, Marlow Rogers, Starkville
Starkville linebacker Marlow Rogers picked up 12 tackles in a 17-0 win over Noxubee County.

LB, Rod’Tavius Jefferson, Yazoo City    
Yazoo City linebacker Rod’Tavius Jefferson had 14 tackles in their 61-14 win over Velma Jackson. Jefferson added an interception.

LB, Corey Lewis, Coahoma County                                           
Olive Branch senior linebacker Alfred Dickens has a team-high 11 tackles and forced a fumble in Olive Branch’s 38-22 win over Ridgeway.

LB, DeArius Christmas, Warren Central
Junior linebacker DeArius Christmas led Warren Central with 16 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss in the Vikings’ 16-9 loss to McComb.

DB, Jeffrey Pate, Madison Central                                                                                     
Senior defensive back Jeffrey Pate had ten tackles in Madison Central’s 21-14 loss to Brandon. Pate also forced a fumble and had an interception.

DB, Ephraim Kitchens, South Panola
South Panola junior defensive back Ephraim Kitchens had six tackles, a tackle for loss and a pair of interceptions in the Tigers’ 42-27 win over White Station.

DB, Colby Hall, Saltillo
Senior defensive back Colby Hall had nine tackles and two tackles for loss in Saltillo’s 24-21 win over DeSoto Central. Hall added an interception and a blocked field goal.

DB, Lee Jackson, Natchez
Senior defensive back Lee Jackson had 11 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in Natchez’s 34-32 loss to Wilkinson County.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS

P, Austin Riley, DeSoto Central
Junior punter Austin Riley averaged 47.8 yards on five punts in a 24-21 loss to Saltillo. Riley had a long punt of 77 yards with one downed inside the 20 yard line.

PK, Reed Bigham, Tupelo
Tupelo placekicker Reed Bigham kicked a pair of field goals in a 36-21 win over Lafayette. Bigham hit from 39 yards and 49 yards.
